The Crusade: Unjustified Attack on Muslims
The Crusade, or the ââ¬Å"Holy Warâ⬠was a medieval military expedition between the Europeans and the Muslims. Their main goal was to conquer the Holy Land, as it will give the conqueror prosperity. Pope Urban II was known for starting the First Crusade which begun in 1096 and lasted till 1099. Within this period of time, chaos and destruction was unavoidable. With both sides having their own schemes of conquer, this resulted to be an endless blood striving battle for control. Despite the clever tactics of the Christians, their attacks toward the Muslims were unjustified. Christians believed that the Crusades were justified because of multiple reasons. Being one of the most powerful religions back then and today, they were well known for their strong devout beliefs. They believed that it was Godââ¬â¢s will and their duty to attack the Muslims (Crusaders Capture). This leaded into a more in depth theory that the Crusaders took caution of. Those who failed to achieve their duties serving God, ââ¬Å"He will condemn [you]â⬠(Muslim Belief). Furthermore, the Crusades believed Pope Urban IIââ¬â¢s speech. All who die by the way, whether by land or sea, on in battle against the pagans, shall have immediate remission of sins. â⬠(Littell). In exchange for their faith, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦in your coming you will find your reward in heaven. â⬠(Littell) Thus, this convinced them to believe and become attentive to all their activities so they will not displease God for they did not want to face any consequences. It was also an encouragement for Chr istians to confirm their decisions of battling against the Muslims since it gave them hope to think for all that is worth, it was a justifiable action. The Muslims believed that the Christians were unjustified. Firstly, Jerusalem was a holy land to the Muslims, for Muhammad visited a temple that was located there. Their main goal was to protect their land from barbaric vengeances. As for Muslims, they also had their own God. Following the same concepts as the Christians, they relied and trusted the one and only God, Allah. ââ¬Å"There is no god but He, the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal. â⬠(Juma) For those who disbelieve God, their punishment will be to receive devastation as well as to fail their mission, returning home defeated and worthless. If a Muslim monarch failed to please their people, they were sentenced for slavery (Beha-ed-Din). People were punished if they did not succeed their commission towards warfare. Convinced by this conjecture, the Muslims were cruel towards the Christians. Their religious beliefs were the main reasons for the Crusades. Both parties, especially the Muslims, had confidence towards their God and it angered the Muslims that the Christians did not believe their one and only Allah. For those who believed in Allah: ââ¬Å"He will help you firm your feetâ⬠(Translation). The Muslims trusted these messages therefore it motivated them into satisfying both their nation and religion but left them unjustified due to the Christians. Following this premise, the Crusades were inequitable. By considering the concepts above, it clearly shows that both had different intentions from its many viewing points. However, Muslims tend to show an unrighteous side towards the affects that the Christians had constructed. The Muslims indicated a strong will of unjustification towards its attacks. In 1187, Saladin once more triumphed Jerusalem and most of the Holy Land. Hearing its news, Richard the Lion Heart began the Third Crusade to vanquish the city once and for all. Arriving in 1191, he massacres and held the Muslims as prisoners. Saladin feared that his approaching plans of conquer would definitely cause his empire to collapse therefore, he offered agreements. Nonetheless, Richard stated an execution to be held for the Muslim defenders. Their agreement never worked out accordingly. Richard) In addition, the Muslims had a better rebuttal for ruling Jerusalem. Muhammad had conquered the ââ¬Å"Holy Land. â⬠The Christian power was being dissolved at that time and the Muslims had a period of peace. This is significant because it explains how the Muslims came to occupy the land before the Christians had. They later came back and declared war to regain the city they thought to be theirs also intended to weaken Muslim forces. (Translation) Lastly, the Western scholars in dicated bias towards the Christians leaving this unjust to the Muslims to a greater extent. They ââ¬Å"highlighted the Christian desire to rule the Holy Landsâ⬠(Juma). This clearly proves that the Muslims were unsatisfied with this situation. To conclude this, the statements and opinions declared in the previous paragraphs are all debatable from both sides. It is agreeable that they have influential arguments that can take place. The Christian had their own purposes of attacking while Muslimââ¬â¢s motives were to keep the land. To come to a respectable factor, both sides had the same ideal objective. To make what they believe in that was right just. Muslims believed that it was an injustice act that the Christians did. During the period of time, many events occurred that obstructed and caused hardship towards the unlucky. Today, this phenomenon has struck the society into an influence of warfare. This is important because we are able to take notices of what the history had left us either benefiting us in either a positive or negative way. Humans can easily use this as an advantage as well as a weapon towards todayââ¬â¢s society.

Sailing Me
What do I really feel? Well, right now, I could say that I am sane. It just sounds funny to say that last word. For some time now, I have been holding a huge rock with my bare hands. The rock symbolizes my life as an adult human being. As an adult of early twentyââ¬â¢s of age, I began to struggle with life. I had worked for two independent companies already in a span of three years. But still, I have not yet found the contentment I am looking for. I mean, may be you would say that people usually have no contentment. But for me, I will continue to strive to gain recognition from my works and deeds so that it will feel rewarding and become a simple form of my contentment. That is why I am always making use of my abilities, skills, and knowledge the best way I can to show how flexible and competitive I can be in every job opportunity that comes my way. I think that is the smartest way to achieve oneââ¬â¢s goal. Love life? I had two colorful love affairs already. I would like to share about the second. I and Gervin were actually friends. We were classmates in elementary. We lived in the same town until high school. I excelled during our elementary years, while he excelled academically in high school. After high school, we were not able to see each other except when there is a reunion held for our batch. Until one day, this year, when I forwarded messages to all the contact numbers of my friends I have in my phonebook, he was the only one who replied and asked how I am doing. It started like that. Everyday I receive messages from him. We converse through text messages, until it came to a point where he became romantic in his messages. Honestly, I liked how it feels. It was flattering. It made me fall for him after some time. For me, it was a cute, simple romance where we expressed our feelings to each other by sending text messages everyday. He was sweet to me. I was sweet to him, too. There were exchanges of I love yous and we understand each other. Although we were not actually seeing each other, I could feel his presence through his messages. And I felt like we were true lovers. The relationship became complicated when I learned that he has a girlfriend. I felt bad about it. Without further thinking, I messaged him immediately and said that I want to stop whatever it is that is happening between us. He did not make a reply. Until now there is no communication between the two of us. I wonder how he really felt about me and how he feels about me right now. What was his real intention to me? Was it just friendship, more than friendship, or just a flirting? If itââ¬â¢s just friendship, he actually hurt me because he is special to me. It was not clear to me what our relationship was. Finally, I am able to accept that I am human and it is normal to feel something special for somebody. It is better to let go of the feeling than to hide it. After heartaches and pains, itââ¬â¢s now time to enjoy life. I want to change my lifestyle, my career path, and everything about me. Itââ¬â¢s time to be happy and to share my smiles to everyone especially to my family who most deserves it. But of course I need to earn money and to work hard for my living also. Lifeââ¬â¢s like that. Go for gold!

Ecological Principles for Landscape Design Essay
Ecological Principles for Landscape Design - Essay Example The effects of a compromised water surface quality impair the aquatic ecosystems, public health issues become a threat and the remediation process is a burden on the entire community. Many parties became involved in the development of a resolution including the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, private citizens, outside consulting firms, academia, scientists and geologistââ¬â¢s, and advocacy groups (Snowden). In response the solution involved the removal and transfer of 600,000 tons of material from one of the acid rock formations- Bald Eagle Sandstone- to a nearby treatment area designated the Excavated Rock Placement Area located just below Sky Top (Snowden). The discovery of acidic rock material along the 1-99 area was first discussed and began being explored in 2002 when there was exposure at Bald Eagle Mountain. This area where much of the Sky Top Mountain drainage occurs has been the subject of studies for as far back as the 1970ââ¬â¢s.Several agencies are on public record as expressing concern about the potential creation of acidic rock drainage if the bedrock were to come into contact with rain water. There was also concern for the potential damage to groundwater and surface water. Excavated rock was crushed and used locally as road base before the nature of this rock was understood and it was only a very short time before surface and groundwater runoff began raising concerns. Pyrite is a mineral that can cause extremely low PH levels and very acidic water.

Why was there so much violence in Rome in the late Republic Essay
Why was there so much violence in Rome in the late Republic - Essay Example 140) Caesarââ¬â¢s rise to power and his eventual assassination demonstrate the violence that permeated Romeââ¬â¢s late Republic. Caesar was pivotal in the increase in violence as he helped militarize the Roman city. Earlier, Rome was plagued by anarchy and that Cnaeus Pompeius was entrusted with the restoration of order. He achieved this by bringing legionaries into the center of the city, the first time that serving soldiers have been brought there for this purpose, except in times of civil war. (Lintott, p. xiv) After order was restored, these legionaries remained in Rome for two more years under Pompeiusââ¬â¢ command. Now, this was used by Julius Caesar as a reason to invade Italy with the pretext of defending his own status. This invasion would bring the Republic to an end. The transition from armies that were fighting in the battlefield to gangs fighting in the streets has sparked the violence in the late Republic. Such transition was disastrous and it is not difficult to understand why. Cicero argued in favor of arming the Roman citizens in his defense of Milo. However, this proved disastrous as more and more people became violent with their arms up to the point that the government could no longer control them. By the time the Roman Senate passed legislation to control bearing arms for violent purposes in the public realm, it was already too late. A specific example of the most controversial disturbances happened in 59 B.C., when the consul Bibulus tried to block his colleague Caesarââ¬â¢s legislation. According to Crook, Lintoot and Rawsonââ¬â¢s account: Bibulus offered religious objection to Caesarââ¬â¢s proposals in the traditional way, according to the process known as abnutiatio: he appeared in the Forum and declared to the presiding magistrate that he had seen evil omensâ⬠¦ As the year went on, however, civil disturbances increased and Bibulus became the object of such violent assaults that he took refuge in his house and merely issued messages that he was

This city is located in the South of China, where large numbers of pigs and chickens live in close proximity to humans (Kaufman 54). Thus, this area is known for virus mutations and disease outbreaks among humans (Kaufman 54). Symptoms of SARS are similar to flu. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), symptoms start with an increased bodily temperature above 38 Celsius degrees (1). Other symptoms might follow: bone ache, headache, and feeling of discomfort, diarrhea, dry cough and finally, pneumonia (CDC 1). However, China, unlike other countries, attempted to hide SARS outbreaks. As the outbreaks set in, the Chinese government covered them up, thus allowing the infected to travel abroad and infect more persons (Kaufman 54). As a result, the contagion became global, instead of being only isolated to a few areas in China. By January 2003, when autho rities were secretly notified, disease had spread across the entire region. However, the public was still kept unaware (Kaufman 54). According to Kaufman, the justification for secrecy lies in the fact that pneumonia was not required to be reported to the public (54). WHO acted a few months later. According to Bloom, one of the top WHO infectious disease specialists was infected by SARS in March of 2003 in Hanoi (701). The specialist died. Rumors spread about additional contagions in China (Bloom 701). Once WHO was alerted by a health computer logarithm, on February 11 the Chinese authorities reported the epidemic (Kaufman 55). Southwest Airlines research paper Essay Example for Free
Southwest Airlines research paper Essay Southwest Airlines, since the beginning has struggle and fight to get in the airline business. Starting with Dallas, Texas. Southwest had to fight to stay at Love field airport, when all the airlines moved to the new Airport of Dallas-Fort worth International airport. Winning this battle gave Southwest the opportunity to get all the customers they wanted, from the near downtown airport, instead of driving 15 miles for the new airport, pay for expensive parking and having to arrive one hour earlier. However the other airlines did not like it, like American Airlines and Braniff International. They would have to pay higher fees for use of the new airport and Southwest Airline did not. The other great battle was when Southwest applied to fly from Houston to New Orleans, the application of Southwest Airlines was opposed by local government and by the airlines that flew that route and were operating from the new airport of Dallas-Fort worth, DFW, they felt this could divert customer that could change flying from Houston better than DFW . Jim Wright who was Forth Worth Congressmen was ask by Southwest opponents to help, and as he was a majority of the U. S. House of Representatives, Wright took it to Washington and a new law emerged. The Wright Amendment of 1979 said that ââ¬Å"No airline may provide nonstop or through-plane service from Dallas Love Field to any city in any state except for location in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. â⬠(Thompson, A Gamble, J. (2010). Southwest could only advertise flights out of Dallas Love Field to these five states. The Wright Amendment continue for 18 years, then in 1997 three more states were added to the ââ¬Å"Wright Zoneâ⬠Alabama, Mississippi and Kansas , and in 2005 Missouri. On 2006 Congress legislation was passed and signed into law that repealed the Wright Amendment beginning in 2014. ââ¬Å"The legal regulatory and competitive battles that Southwest fought in its early years produced a strong esprit de corps among Southwest personnel and a drive to survive and proper despite the odds. â⬠ââ¬Å"They have the warrior mentality, they are here in the airline business to stay and will fight for their share of the marketâ⬠. (Thompson, A Gamble, J. (2010) The idea of having ticketless help the airline to saved money on paper and accounting for all these tickets. And the idea came from one of the employees. Southwest Airlines places their employees before the customers, this idea has given Southwest Airlines and advantage in customer service that other airlines do not have. In this company the employees feel free to come with ideas and implemented them, if the ideas do not work they will not be reprimand or fired, the failure will be used as example and experience. That gives the employees empowerment and the courage to keep looking for new ideas to improve the service and the company. Herb Kelleher has been an important figure in the culture of Southwest Airlines, with his background; majored in philosophy and law graduating with honors on both. Herb, as everybody called him in Southwest Airlines has given this company a unique culture, where the employees sing and dance with the customers and they give friendship and love more than just customer service. This style has worked for more than 40 years, the airline is love by their customer, who do not really care that there is no first class or preferred seating. They just want the good service and to be transported from point to point safe, on time and with a better price. Even their stock name reflects love. NYSE LUV is Southwest financial name. (Thompson, A Gamble, J. (2010) Southwest Strategic planning for the future, and buying fuel in advance for their planes, gave them the opportunity to save millions of dollars. Southwest was the first airline to negotiate these prices with the oil companies. Southwest Airlines has its own school for flight attendants and training for employees, there is no other University that can train them with the special Southwest Airline Culture. Other airlines have the training schools too, what happen is that the culture is different. Other airlines like United trained the flight attendants for First Class and Business class, besides economy, their training takes longer and their uniforms are more expensive. Southwest uniforms are less expensive and they only have one class, economy. Their flight attendants are also trained to clean the plane on turn around. Other airlines have a cleaning crew that gets into the plane and clean it while the flight attendants are resting; however some airlines have adopted this plan since 9/11. This has saved Southwest salaries on each city for cleaning. Only on cities that the planes stay overnight they have a special cleaning crew that gives the plane a complete service. (Thompson, A Gamble, J. (2010) The idea of having only one type of equipment has given great savings, comparing with other airlines that have different aircrafts and need mechanics specialized on each different aircraft and to have different kinds of plane pieces of maintenance according to each plane. Southwest has all his mechanics highly trained for only one kind of aircraft and the maintenance inventory of their pieces for maintenance in their planes are all the same and this means that they do not need millions of dollars in equipment and train mechanics for each different type of aircraft. After 9/11, Southwest shines like a start as the only airline that do not lose money in 2001 or 2002 and the only airline that did not furlough any of its employees during this time that the rest of the airlines furlough about 500,000 employees among them. It was here when all the eyes of the analyst look at Southwest as the marvelous company that has been doing the right thing all the time, and that was prepared with enough cash, for any eventuality. Southwest Airlines is name in every management book as example of how to conduct an airline and what strategy they have to hold their employees and have very low turn around. Strategy which gives their passengers what they want, and also the strategy has made Southwest a profitable airline since 1973. (Thompson, A Gamble, J. (2010) Company Mission Southwest Airlineââ¬â¢s Mission, Vision and Triple Bottom Line Commitment to Performance, People and Planet. (See Exhibit 1) ââ¬Å"Southwest Mission is dedication to the highest quality of Customer Service delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride and Company Spiritâ⬠(Southwest Airlines). For Southwest Airlines the employees come first and customer second. By having employees satisfied with their job, and treated like family, they will be able to give the best customer service with warmth, friendliness and keep all customer satisfied too. The airline has pursued low fares to make affordable travel to a majority of middle class customers. By charging low fares, and no charging extra fees on baggage, and changing tickets, the customers know exactly what they are paying without paying any extra charges. Southwest serves 72 airports in 37 states and transports 89. Million passengers annually. Southwest had a revenue of $89. 08 billion from November 2012 to November 2013. (Bureau of Transportation Statistics) Internal/External Analysis Strengthsà Southwest Airlines firm operating strategy has given profit for 40 years, flying from point to point instead of having a ââ¬Å"hubâ⬠like other airlines do, has given Southwest the opportunity to utilized their hours flying for each plane more than others. With their 20 minutes turn over on each point, the airline has on the air their planes most of the time. This capacity utilization makes their cost down and has a competitive advantage over other airlines whose turnaround times were more than 30 minutes. Their bargaining power with suppliers like fuel prices paying in advance and saving millions of dollars over other airlines. Their labor efficiency and pay scales. By training their employees to perform the best and guarantee them good pay and becoming more important than customers, Southwest has economized in having fewer employees per aircraft than other airlines. Employees have in average the same salary as other airlines, employees get profit sharing plan, however they work more. In economies el scale, Southwest Airlines operates only jets Boing 737-300 with 173 planes, Boeing 737-700 with 343 and Boing 737-500 with 25 planes. Having the same kind of planes they operated with very low cost. Widespread Reach: As of the end of 2011, the company serviced 72 cities in 37 states, stretching across the entire United States, and their AirTran acquisition now extends their reach into international skies, mostly over Mexico and the Caribbean islands. Southwest announce 15 more nonstop services from Dallas Love field Airport. Online systems and software, Southwest Airlines invested in next-generation technology and software to improve its ticketless system and its back-office accounting, payroll and human resource information. Previously they have invested in its management information systems to speed data flows and upgrade its customer capabilities. In 2001 implemented new software to generate optimal crew schedules it help improve on-time performance and reduce employees in the schedule department. Southwest operating cost had been lowers than other airlines. (Thompson, A.p. C-294. 2012). Successful differentiation from other airlines is their employees culture, which is transmitted to the customers, employees give a warmth customer service, normally calling the passengers by their first name, singing and hugging and kissing. No other airline does this. â⬠(Guenette, R. November 13, 2013) By giving the same product at a better price than other more expensive airlines, Southwest Airlines has been able to have a larger share of the market. Southwest has a reputable brand with excellent record of safety, this is a major advantage. For the first Quarter of 2013, Southwest reported earnings and revenue that exceeded Wall Street expectations (EPS: $0. 07 per share, Revenue: $4. 08 billion vs. EPS: $0. 02 per share, Revenue: 4. 07 billion). Additionally, average passenger revenue per available seat mile rose 1. 8% along with an increase in passenger traffic by 0. 3%. Keeping the strong numbers in mind from the last quarter, analysts are optimistic about Q2 2013 earnings ($0. 39 a share, up from $0. 36 during Q2 2012). (Ing, S. July 24, 2013). Weaknesses Operating Expenses: The average cost per gallon of fuel from 2005 to 2011 grew 182.à 30%, the consumer is constantly demanding added services and amenities to their flights, and the unions are viscously battling for more money for their members; at the end of the day the company does not have much money left over (net profit margin is 1. 14%). Debt: The Company is estimated to possess $361 million of debt on their balance sheet, and until they pay down these debts it will drag significantly on their business. Depending on only one company as supplier for their planes can be a problem if the supplier fails or stop their production. Although Boeing is a robust company, changes can affect Southwest Airlines. The economy, even though Southwest is a low cost airline, until the economy continues low, people cannot fly unless is business or emergency. Achieving sustainable competitive advantage for Southwest is becoming harder as operating costs are going up and the company has a low net profit margin. (Guenette, R. November 13, 2013) Opportunities The industry attractiveness is a strength and an opportunity for Southwest Airlines, the only major airline that do not charge for baggage, many customer look into this as they are also attracted for the price the service, safety and excellent rate on time performance. As a complementary strategy function, Southwest Airlines acquisition of Air Tran gives them the option to fly international for the first time. This acquisition strategy strengthens competitiveness for Southwest Airlines, and gives the opportunity to enter into international markets. Customers that look at how the companies treat their customers and employees, Southwest Airlines have won awards every year for customer satisfaction and by putting their employees first and second their customers. Other airlines that treat the employees as if they were only a number are losing money every year. Example American, United Airlines and Delta Airlines. (Thompson, A Gamble, J. (2010) Threats. The culture establish by Herb Kelleher may not be followed by Gary Kelly and Southwest Executives. Another airlines that are following the pattern of Southwest Airlines, like Jet Blue and Allegiant could get a better share of the Market The airline industry is incredibly competitive, and the race to get the consumerââ¬â¢s business often leads to margin contraction Weather Uncertainty: As we have seen most recently with snow storms in the North east, natural disasters can cause major losses in business for the airlines, and because Mother Nature is so unpredictable, there is always major uncertainty revolving around the company When jet fuel prices rise, airline companies are faced with the decision of passing the pain onto their customers and possibly losing business, or swallowing the costs and ruining their margins The company operates mainly in the United States of America, and thus any economic slowdown exclusive to the American economy could drastically hurt Southwestââ¬â¢s business, while other international companies possess the ability to overcome American decline economy if internationally the economy is better. Goals and Long-term Objectives The analysis shows that Southwest Airlines should seek International market share to gain access to new customers and to spread business risk across a wider market area. Actually Southwest is solely business is within the United States, with the acquisition of Air Tran which was already flying to Mexico, and the Caribbean, Southwest Airlines attempt to fly international is one of the goals and long term objectives. The company has measures their steps into new markets after studying the market and the possibilities, Southwest Airlines will do the same with flight to international markets. Air Tran is already flying to Cancun in Mexico and Puerto Rico in the Caribbean, soon other cities could be added, like Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico and other Islands in the Caribbean. Southwest Airlines should not follow an aggressive strategy as the economy is not strong enough. It should continue marketing in the cities where these flights are going to depart from the United States and on their international destination. Southwest Strategy of acquisition has saved the company of all the expenses and complex structure to work in a foreign market. All these procedures and permits and agreements with international governments and the IATA. (International Air Transport Association) are already done by Air Tran. Strategy Selection Southwest Airlines should use the ââ¬Å"Think Global act Global Strategyâ⬠, as an International Airline. Southwest Airlines has a brand that is recognized International mainly by the way this company has performed during its 40 years since they start flying. Customers around the world know about their code of ethic, their mission and the way they have run the company by employees first then customers, their safety record and on time performance, and very important their low cost. Should also continue with the Ethical and Cultural Strategy that has been core of the company culture. As the social Responsibility and Corporate Citizenship Strategy. The company Social Responsibility Strategy has been example to many companies not only in the United States, but in other countries too. . (Thompson, A Gamble, J. (2010) Southwest action to enhance employees well-being, by treat them like family and putting their employees first, even before its customers, has given them the merit of recognition of one of the best companies to work for. The company has an ethical strategy and operates honorably and ethically, this was clear when Southwest Airlines was the only Airlines after 9/11 crisis, that did not furlough any of its employees. The airline showed with this example the ethic and honorability which has been their Strategy since the beginning of the company 40 years ago. (Thompson, A Gamble, J. (2010). Southwest Airlines supports several charitable causes, participates in community service activities and contributes to the overall betterment of society. (Thompson, A Gamble, J. (2010) Southwest should continue with these Strategies, as they have shown how well they work for the company, their employees, their customers and their community. These Strategies of Social responsibility and the Strategies stated before about the Vision, Mission, objectives and basic competitive Strategies. Southwest as a low-cost carrier has seen its cost base edge up over the years as it has matured and gained in scale. In response Southwest has modified its business model and has started to fly from crowded markets, such as New Yorkââ¬â¢s LaGuardia . The 2011 Air Tran acquisition, the biggest in Southwest history, has accelerated the process of expansion, and has given the company a larger share in the Atlanta domestic market, and also the international destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico. (Sing, C. 2013) Recommendations/Implementation The above analysis shows that the best recommendation for Southwest is to continue opening new routes in Mexico and the Caribbean. Having already open the door with Air Tram to Cancun, it is feasible that the same permits can be used to fly to the same country. The two destinations we suggest are Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta, following with Los Caboââ¬â¢s after one year. All these three cities have facilities and International Airports. The affluent of Tourists to these cities is year round. Southwest Airlines could fly these routes with 2 aircrafts. The Company has a contract with Boing for 25 planes during the next 10 years. (Southwest Airlines One Report (February 3, 2013) The persons in charge of this venture will have to be trained to handle international law and all the complex regulations that an airline has to comply, however among the employees of Air Tran; there must be the experience person or persons, needed to handle the opening of the new route. The hiring of ground personnel at the airport of the new destinations, have to be done locally, and the operation manager can be an American. Mexican Immigration Law requires that employees should be of Mexican Nationality, However the Manager can be an American with a job permit up to 2 years (Mexican Immigration Law). Marketing for these two new destinations has to be done principally on the cities that fly nonstop to the new destination. Marketing has to be done also at the new destination, to gain international market share for the airline. The company has the sufficient funds to open these two cities and start operations by next year 2015. (Annex 3) The Company has already a reservations office established and all the ground support for the International service from Air Tran.

Emergence and Impact of Regional Parties Essay Example for Free
Emergence and Impact of Regional Parties Essay It is raining acronyms in politics and the vibrant Indian political landscape is flooded. Well, almost so as Regional parties gain ground with amazing alacrity in a diverse India where a fast-transforming political map now promises a never before variety. SAD in Punjab on one side, SP, BSP in Uttar Pradesh on the other, RJD, JD(U) in Bihar as also DMK, AIADMK, PMK, MDMK and DMDK in the deep South and TMC, AGP and others in North-East ââ¬âthey seem to be flowing in from all nooks and corners to lend a different hue, their own hue, to the political waters as they flow in our country today. Though the experiment with regional politics first succeeded in the late 1960s when many parties won against the Congress, it was only post-1989 that regional politics really became a phenomenon, here to stay, courtesy the National Parties themselves. The alphabet-soup illustrating the striking transformation of Indias politics over the past two decades, brewed on the fire provided by the space vacated by National Parties to be wedded to the cause of regional issues, local aspirations and territorial priorities. Also, shrinking space of the National Parties led to creation of a vacuum which the Regional parties were happy to fill. They sprung up and marched ahead as a consequence of the leanings of the public to advance its aspirations. Essentially individualistic, personality-driven parties bound by a lose chain of thought rather than a cohesive coordinated ideology, these pandered to regional populism with a much narrower vision of things sans any broad-based National consensus on ideology and issues. But, then, what did the mushrooming of these regional parties, finally, find reflection in? While it strengthened the federal structure with assertion by the States of the Union for its share in power, privileges, taxes, revenues and benefits of micro-macro schemes, it also led to a certain amount of healthy competition inter se states, making us the republic that we really are. It also gave rise to the concept of shared sovereignty, marked by an increase in the capacity of the state to influence its own development performance while enhancing the representative character of Indiaââ¬â¢s democracy. The relentless rise of these regional home-grown parties, sharing the one common attribute of having a mass base in only the state of their birth, led to a spate of constitutional and legislative reforms in terms of judicial, administrative and centre-state relations. Not only this, it weaved together an interplay of forces, prompting National parties to not only rope them in for support but also brought about a dependence which lent a Regional flavor to National Policies. Then, it is in this that emerged the beauty of the dove-tailing of the National and these Regional entities. But, then, since beauty is never blemish-free, there is a flip side too. Given their ââ¬Å"strategicâ⬠positioning, the Regional parties have not only exploited this dependence of the National Parties for their own advantage but, at times, even arm-twisted the latter to get their way. Thereââ¬â¢s a way out of this of labyrinth in which National Parties find themselves lost in and it does not lie in a top-down approach which, in the present times, seems not only inadequate but also outdated. We have an India defined by mobilization of a plethora of identity and interest groups which have taken the shape and form of Regional parties to diffuse real power from the Centre to the states. The National Parties need to wake up and smell the coffee. The crutches of dependence on Regional parties have to go and they have to not only learn to stand on their own feet but even walk that extra mile to fulfill regional aspirations to show that each one of the 28 states matters as much. For this, they must permit regional units to function at the local level as semi-independent units with adequate flexibility for leadership-building at the regional level. This will help balance the regional interest with the National interest which many a times end upconflicting with each other. Besides, a cohesive National party with semiindependent regional strait-jacketed unit to cater to regional interests is the only guarantee for ensuring continuous unification within Indiaââ¬â¢s multi-ethnic diversity which weaves the many strands of region, religion, culture and politics into one social fabric we call India.

Using Body Language In English Teaching English Language Essay
Using Body Language In English Teaching English Language Essay Introduction At present, almost everyone knows that language learning, especially English learning, becomes more and more important to the students. Students often learn English through the classroom teaching, namely teachers education. Due to the disadvantages of traditional English teaching, teachers need to reform the teaching methods to arouse the students interest in English and help them to learn better. There are many useful and proper methods to get the goal and one of them is using body language. What is body language? Body language or nonverbal communication is a communication without words. It refers to patterns of facial expressions gestures that people use to express their feeling in communication. In school education, body language plays a positive role in cultivating the students characters for teachers are usually imitated by the students. In a word teachers graceful and lively body language helps to improve students artistic appreciation and moral character and it is necessary and important for the teachers to use the proper, vivid, dramatic and even exaggerated movements to teach the abstract knowledge. Thus the students will improve a lot from teaching. As a result, the students interest and the effect of teaching are greatly improved. So it is necessary to use body language in teaching. English teaching is a key part of the school education. Generally, traditional English teaching considers teachers as a center, book learning as a standard and examination handling as the only goal. Thus the study interest and desire of the students are greatly depressed. Therefore, we must make and carry out reforms in education. We need reforms. With the English teaching methods reform, more and more teachers pay much attention to the importance of using body language in school teaching. And according to the students present level and practical situation, body language is also required. The use of body language is a useful method in English teaching. In the classes, if teachers use it properly the students attention can be attracted and the teaching quality can be improved. The use of gestures and facial expressions of teachers in the teaching process is important they will help teachers express their own ideas and thoughts accurately and lively. According to the students, the use of body language will help them keep firmly in mind the knowledge obtained in class. Body language contains facial expressions, eyesight, movements, and so on and even cloth. Facial expressions-in the teaching process, teachers provide the students with messages through their own facial expressions. In the process of class exchange, teachers express their affection; optimism and deep confidence to the students. The students will feel warm and become active. The facial expressions of teachers in English teaching should change along with the changing of class contents and teaching circumstances. Also teachers delight, anger, sorrow and joy should appear in at the right moment, infect the students to make them have the feeling of delight and sorrow at the same time. They cant take their own passive morals into the classrooms. Eyesight- eyes are the windows of heart. Through the window, teachers transmit information which cant be expressed by verbal language to the students. An excellent teacher should have a pair of eyes which can speak. S/he should be good at using eyes to transmit messages, exchange feelings, express attitudes and carry on teaching. If a teacher stared angrily at the students who didnt concentrate his attention nor did some petty actions in classes, the students would restrain himself consciously. When a student didnt answer a question for a long time because of his shame of making mistakes, an encouraging eyesight from his teacher would make him become more confident than before. Movements the main movement is gestures. Gestures are the most important part of body language. The English teaching in classes focuses on communication activities. Dull and dry communication will make students produce detestable feeling but lively, vivid, even exaggerated actions and gestures can enliven the teaching circumstances, making the activities go off without a hitch. If the teacher gives a balls shape through his hands, then performs the action of shooting a basket when teaching the word basketball, all of the students can guess the meaning of it. When the teacher teaches the verb, it will be more accurate to do a simple gesture o the students than teachers repeated explanation. And the students can remember it with a deep impression. Patting up ones thumb expresses Ok and Great. And nodding shows Yes and shaking ones hand shows No. These are all in common use. According to school students, distinctive figures will greatly influence their thoughts. Therefore, the use of body language in schools teaching is helpful in students understanding and memory. Then with the limitation of the use of mother language, the students will be studying in a good environment. The use of lively and vivid body language in English teaching can fully arouse the students study interest and joining enthusiasm. More importantly, the whole teaching process will become the communication activities of language in the scenes with the true teaching contents. At the same time, when the students suffer setbacks and become disappointed, when the students make mistakes because they are self-willed and troublesome, when the students lack confidence in themselves because of their sense of inferiority and timid, and when they make progress through their hardworking, if teachers can use different body language properly or use their eyesight to give some hints to them, or use mo vements to assist and establish a special emotion and atmosphere to go on an exchange from heart to heart, then the students will appreciate it. At that time, they will achieve the best teaching effect in classes. From all the above, we find that body language plays a positive role in the English teaching. Body language has strong characteristics in images and informative functions. It can make the abstract things become specific. In brief, English subjects are not like other subjects. English subjects have not an atmosphere, so teachers teachers should do their best to reduce their use of Chinese (local/mother tongue) in classes. Then body language will become the main medium through which teachers and students communication with each other. The influences of teachers body language on the students are reflected not only by establishing a good example, but also by shortening the teacher-student estrangement by which a more harmonious studying atmosphere is created. In the English teaching, body language needs to be used frequently so as to improve the teaching effect and the students ability. In conclusion, practice makes perfect. Learning English needs practice. The 45 minutes in class is very precious and should be cherished during which the students should practice as much as possible. To make the full use of the limited time, teachers are required to adopt some effective methods. At the same time, the recent educational reforms, the students present level and the practical situation like their limitation of vocabulary requires teachers to simplify their teaching language with the help of facial expressions, eyesight, body movements, namely body language. The use of body language can not only attract the students attention, but also deepen their impression and imagination. The use of body language is completely up to the standard of audio-visual teaching principle, so teachers should try to teach in English from the beginning to the end, together with the corresponding body language. Therefore, we should realize the necessity and importance of using proper and vivid bo dy language in teaching English. So teachers should use body language in school English teaching and try their best to use it in classes. In the end, the students ability of English will be certainly and greatly improved.

Its Time for Immigration Reform Essay -- Illegal Immigration, Illegal
It's Time for Immigration Reform à News article after news article on immigration characterizes anyone who opposes the current level of immigration as anti-immigrant. This is biased and deceitful. It's like saying that anyone who doesn't want 10 or 12 children is anti-children. The truth is that many people are pro-immigration but recognize that the present level of immigration is unsustainable and will eventually be detrimental to Americans and immigrants alike. à One often-used irrelevant argument is that we are a nation of immigrants. While true, it does not shed light on the question of how many immigrants should be admitted annually and what should be the criteria for admission. To understand the issue, we must focus on the numbers involved. Although the Census Bureau has not released the number of immigrants for fiscal 1997, most analysts believe that at least 1 million legal and between 300,000 to 500,000 illegal immigrants are entering the U.S. each year. This is about four times the number who came to America annually during the 1950s and 1960s. à Even this does not put the issue in perspective, however. The crux of the problem is the cumulative impact. At present rates of immigration, the U.S. population will increase by up to 200 million persons in the next 50 to 60 years. Even if all immigration were halted today--and few persons are suggesting such a draconian policy--we will still add up to 80 million people due to the children and grandchildren from the wave of immigrants that have entered the U.S. since 1970. à So what? Isn't this unending supply of cheap, compliant, hardworking labor good for America... ...impossible task of building a school every day. à Although poll after poll indicates that most American would like to see immigration cut back to traditional levels (about 250,000 a year), present immigration policy has been determined by a coalition of businesses who benefit from a limitless supply of cheap labor, immigration lawyers, immigrant lobbies and naive do-gooders who think that bringing in 1 million of the world's 4 billion poor will somehow reduce world poverty. à Americans, like most people, tend to live for the moment, with little thought for the future. The hundreds of billions of dollars that are being expended to correct the Y2K computer problem were totally unnecessary with just a modicum of forethought. What can a nation do when it discovers it is overpopulated? Ask China and India. Ã
My Papaââ¬â¢s Waltz - Battered Knuckles Essays -- My Papas Waltz Essays
My Papaââ¬â¢s Waltz - Battered Knucklesà à à Many people look back on memories with a pleasant slant. A backpacker may love to go to the mountains, but every time that person ventures out he encounters a blizzard. The weather is not always conducive to the backpacker and can cause great discomfort. However, when the hiker returns to his normal routine he usually forgets about the bad experience so that he can continue loving the mountains and happily plan his next adventure. Similarly, Theodore Roethke's, "My Papa's Waltz" is a poem about a man who tries to make a horrible event into something much more pleasant to think about. The speaker seems to be remembering back to his childhood and finally uncovers dark memories about his father. The child in the poem finally realizes that childhood was full of scary nights in which he sometimes feared for his life. The speaker has tried for years to believe that he loved his father, but he finally understands what really happened in his boyhood home. The speaker in this poem begins by commenting on how much his father drinks. The father ...

Implementing Vygotsky’s Model of Child Development
Implementing Vygotsky'sà Socialà Learning Theoryà in the Classroom Jodi Zeman Growing and Learning Theories VTE-ED 571 October 25, 2010 Sheryl Bunn 2 Implementing Vygotskyââ¬â¢s Social Learning Theory in the Classroom Contrary to Sigmund Freud's theory,à Levà Vygotsky's concept is anchored in the idea that a child learns new complex tasks from a more advanced adult or sibling helping him or her through these new situations. Hisà cognitive-developmental approach based on an idea Jerome Bruner later labeled ââ¬Å"scaffoldingâ⬠(Wood, Bruner, ; Ross, 1976).This person leads the child through tasks that might otherwise be too advanced for a developing childà alone,à but with the guidance and help from the leader these are attainable. This gives the child a guide as he or she progresses and eventually begins to conquer problems or new tasks independently. A large part of theà success of the child has to do with the structureà or ââ¬Å"scaffoldingâ⬠the c hild has in placeà to help him or her along theà journey thus making social interaction a vital part of hisà theory. This concept applies directly to the high school physical education ââ¬Å"classroomâ⬠.There are unique challenges that a teacher comes across when trying to use traditional instructional methods in an atypical classroom. The learning environment is not always conducive to the educator communicating important points with visual, audio and tactile cues to help. There is no ââ¬Å"note takingâ⬠or list of terms on the whiteboard used to offer reinforcement. Insteadà of anà educator lecturingà the theories and fundamental rules involved in an activity, the teacher must take an active role toà engage with the students.Vygotsky's approach is very hands-on, in that there isà no formal distance between the teacher and the 3 students inà instruction. The teacher interacts with the students and helps them to complete tasks that might otherwise be mo re advanced than theyà would be able to handle on their own. An example of this in the area of physical education would be illustrated inà an introduction to volleyball. We would start by reviewing techniques used to do basic fundamental skills needed for volleyball while introducing the terms and names for these techniques. The teacher would then demonstrate these techniques for the students to use as a visual guide for what the skill set might look like, and also go over common pitfalls students might face in theà physical activity to alleviate pressuresà some of the students might have before attempting the exercise. We would start with basic technical skills and give each student a chance to participate in the exercise. Once all the students demonstrate the basic skill discussed, we would introduce a slightly more challenging version of the first drill. For instance, initially the teacher or a partner would toss a ball up in the air to the person demonstrating ââ¬Å"the p assâ⬠and the participant would then try toà pass the volleyball back to the tosser. The other students would watch and support the students when they were successful. The nature of a physical education class does lend itself to Vygotsky'sà cooperative ideas and team learning style. The students can break up into groups and work together to improve the skills set forth for the class.A modification of this exercise to make it more challenging would be to pair the students up and instead of tossing the ball back to each other they would try to pass the ball back and forth in a controlled manner to the other partner. They would try toà keep the passes going in a controlled manner back and forth to each other. I would then 4 observe and let the students try to explore the task with a partner. If there were people who struggled with the initial drill I would pair themà up with a classmate who successfully completed the task.Once we complete the initial introduction to the ba sic skill of passing we would then introduce the class to the actual playing area. This would serve both the struggling student and the one acting as a peer tutor to understand the skill further. The nature of Vygotsky's theory is grounded in the concept that the environment we are in will have a direct and powerful role in how we might learn and grow. This is why it is so incredibly important for students to receive positive praise for their efforts.Anytime the students complete a requested task there should be a lifting up of that student and recognition that the goal was met. Physical education can be a bit tricky because you have so many students with different athletic levels and backgrounds. The students also may have self-esteem issues which are often put into the forefront when having to demonstrate skills in front of others. This leaves the student open to the possibility of failure of the task and consequently, ridicule. That is why in P. E. the instructor has to emphasize the importance of effort more than execution.A positive attitude and a effort-filled attempt is a praise-worthy demonstration of an exercise. Mastery will only come if the student feels comfortable enough to put himself or herself out there to try it.References Bee, H. , ; Boyd, D. (2004). The Developing Child. The article identifies the come on apply in exam the possible action as linking media shape with normative political guess in a taxonomical way. This address superficially indicates the inclusion of qualitative query ascribable to the i n truth(prenominal) constitution of normative supposition. soft investigate centers some the idea that meaning is socially constructed by individuals ground on their interactions with the conception and that the populace is not base on positivist or take to bed assumptions (Merriam, 2002 32). soft enquiry suggests that instead, reality is establish on nonuple interpretations that transplant over time, and look intoers restore themselves kinda with apprehension these interpretations at a particular time. This search in particular focuses on the great unwashed of interpretations (Flick, 2009). If one understands normative opening as world prescriptive of how one ideally should or ought to act, baronial a treasure idea found on these interpretations (Over, 2004 3), one can see the sense of normative political guess as inherently qualitative in spirit. By contrast, numerical methods of question atomic number 18 those which appertain entropy analysed in impairment of numbers pool (Punch, 1998). It is probable indeed that normative political theory may be assist by deuce-ace-figure enquiry methods, as however fundamentally this requires a value judgment on what political theory ought to be, is essentially positions itself indoors qualitative research by its truly definition, as a value judgment requires the consideration of factors that typically fall inwardly the commonwealth of qualitative research, such as consideration and evaluation.Arguably, the thoughtlessness of this command of methodology from the naval division in the article itself is confirm through redundancy. That is to say, that to the conclusion that this is both still as a methodology of normative theory application, as well as the assumptions do virtually this theory at bottom the report card quite than a service of research or find as to what this theory is, perhaps the inclusion of this consideration in the methodology percentage is somewhat extra and unnecessary.A involved method of qualitative and three-figure research exists in this article unless in the realization of subject field analysis as the pristine method of analysis in the writing (Balabanova Balch, 2010 386). mental ability analysis assort textual material by cut back it to doable pieces of info by quantifying the natural event of received phrases or themes at bottom a text (Weber, 1980). It is because construct that topic analysis is three-figure to the effect that it attempts to quantify reliable themes inwardly the text itself. However, it is simultaneously qualitative in that it takes reckon of the context of text components, latent structures of sense, metier in individual cases and things that do not appear in the text itself (Ritsert, 1972). For this reason, the inclusion of qualitative discipline analysis in analyzing communion texts, such as the current case of media, these factors argon alpha for includin g context in the process of analysis. This besides is not the qualitative inclusion that is referred to by Balabanova and Balch (2010 396), as the methodology section purports to include qualitative factors through qualitative recital of selected articles to identify the honest position and the range of communitarian and widely distributed let gos. Whilst it troubleatic that these factors argon a necessary inclusion of qualitative factors in the research, this should not be the period of this inclusion. This is a overhaul inclusion in the Balabanova and Balch (2010 386) article if one considers the constitution of sources analyze as creation media sources of a particular topic, specially considering the respectable mark thereof. in that location is a unimpeachably inclusion of original good judgments in the kernel analysis which is essential to the topic itself. To the extent then that the field analysis utilize in the paper is of commingle methodology, this is just set aside abanthroughd the assorted spirit of the inquiry itself. By reservation use of the sources that take line of the context, specially in the preference of sources, it is pass water that there argon features of qualitative content analysis present in the article. mannequin analytic thinkingA unless method place by the methodology section of the article is a shut in analysis, which essentially whole kit and boodle as a method of define how an restitution is puzzleatised and the effect that this has on the broader reciprocation (Hope, 2010 2). build, involves pick and highlighting of certain facets of events, making connections in the midst of them so that they arouse a particular interpretation, evaluation or ascendant (Entman, 2004). By inning an egress in a certain way the media swot up and structure their presentation, in the process including and excluding ideas and arguments to produce a dour device and correspondence of the resolution (Pan and Kosicki, 1993). patronage the inclusion of this methodology, it is supposed whether the authors clear make use of this analysis method, as there is no inference of a backchat involving the human body of the enigma line of reasoning in a manner that is tenacious with this methodology. This is a minute methodology involving various move of conceptuality from the radical framework, to the metaframes and finally, the issue frame star(p) to the line averment. Essentially, this moves from a very broad general judgement of the issue and moves towards the very item (Hope, 2010 5).Whilst it is clear that Balabanova and Balch (2010 383) direct understandably state their problem statement in the introductory paragraphs of the article, this is not heretofore consistent with the steps of analysis utilise in a frame analysis. The introduction to the problem statement arguably is well reasoned from the onset, and there is no victimization or breakthrough of logic as the process enfolds. and then, it is fresh to solve that there is an suitable formation of the problem statement, up to now this is not done by a frame analysis which purports to form the backside of the research itself. info prayerIt is disputable that the method of entropy array employ by Balabanova and Balch (2010) is a qualitative information solicitation method. This is so because broadly speaking a posteriori or first-hand research is undertaken in duodecimal studies which involves the nonsymbiotic accretion of info by the researcher, rather than analyzing data that is already available. To this extent, the authors cast circumvented a number of logistical issues with regards to the honorable motive of empiric research. in the main speaking, empirical research must be attach to by a statement of ethics to hear that the confiscate ethical standards atomic number 18 adhered to when traffic with research participants. qualitative data thereof is phonation of spoken language data or the beat of the participants of the study, whereas vicenary data is a disposition of numbers and figures (Polkinghorne, 2005). Whilst, the article does make use of denary data in terms of the fact that it uses this data to form the tail of the analysis, it in addition makes use of qualitative data which can be exposit as an draw or recite of human race intimacy (ibid). It stands to reason then, that if one considers the subject matter of the article, the findings argon a demonstration of an experience and other than depict as cause of a certain circumstance. To this extent, the quantitative figures are apply as a keep implement to add to the boldness and dependableness of these findings. rigourousness by and bountiful implies that the promoter must measure what it was think to measure (Barbour, 2008). Therefore to the extent that this data collection method has been utilize to bring in the earmark severalise and theref ore measure the topic of the article, it is a validated implement of doing so. The article nevertheless does not address the issue of data collection, although it is pretty intelligible that it is qualitative in nature considering that it was chosen from a particular(prenominal) demographic country, with precise interests in mind when collecting this data. There are certain superficial indicators of dependability in research relating to repetition or symmetry in assertion. Golafshani (2003 598) identifies three types of dependableness referred to in research, which plug in to, namely the degree to which a measurement, assumption repeatedly, stiff the same, the perceptual constancy of a measurement over time and the likeness of measurements inwardly a presumption time period. Arguably by the very nature of the means of analysis, namely content analysis, these results should exclude to be reliable, as the subject of what this method measures is scarcely the repeated incidence of item themes and phrases within the data sampled. The dependability of the data therefore is reliant on the dependability of the mechanism of analysis in this case. It can be conclude that, despite the lack of backchat as to the reliability of the data, the nature of the test is one which is inherently reliability. This is excuse further by the express size of the universe of discourse of the study itself.Sources Cases primarily speaking, it is not confiscate to rely solo on publisher articles as the primer of academic findings, even so for the purposes of the current research, specially in that the article is found on the turn of the media on the science of intra-EU migration. As a result therefore the use of these sources is appropriate. The reliability and robustness of the research with regards to the sources is upheld in integrity, as there is the adequate inclusion of esteemed academic sources, as well as the use of these news programpaper sources which form the basis of the data analysis. cultivationBy and large the application of the draw methodology in the article itself is successful. unrivaled could argue that the pertinent theoretic considerations with regards to research methodology nurture been adequately turn to in the article given the aloofness and depth of the subject matter. This nevertheless is not to say that the authors flummox not excluded the fundamental considerations of methodology that merit inclusion, such as more exploration of qualitative research methodology, which has been argued to transmit importantly to the outcomes of the study, all the same are not sufficiently included. condescension this exclusion, the collection of data and the sources apply to support the hypothesis of the article are sufficient and appropriate in the circumstance, considering that the topic at hand requires an inquiry into the opinions and role of the media in these circumstances. This is back up by a superficial, yet adequate methodological definition that allows the reader a basic understanding of the methodology used in the paper.ReferencesBalabanova and Balch (2010) move and receiving The ethical framing of intra-EU migration in the European press.
